Egyptian Museum, Turin

Kengo Kuma developed an extraordinary and poetic proposal to cover the courtyard of Turin’s Egyptian Museum, transforming the Egyptian symbolism of water into a glass origami structure.

The courtyard is reimagined as a new covered square: a collective, permeable and light-filled space that extends the life of the museum and creates new relationships between the building, the city and its visitors. The transparent roof is not conceived as an autonomous object, but as a delicate piece of infrastructure that modulates light, climate, sound and perception, respecting the historic façades while enabling more flexible use of the courtyard. The new exhibition design guides visitors through a clear and engaging narrative in which artefacts, materials, textures and digital media work together to evoke emotion without competing with the collections.
