Museums: The Appeal of the Past and the Challenges of the Future

Our experience, from monumental Florence to new international cultural districts.

Designing or redesigning a museum means engaging with memory, accessibility, rigorous exhibition design and new forms of cultural experience. Studio Lauria Network has developed recognised expertise in this field, working with Florence’s leading institutions and contributing to major international projects.

Key projects include work for the Bargello Museums, Orsanmichele and the Laurentian Library; the proposal for Turin’s Egyptian Museum as part of the team led by Kengo Kuma; and the proposal for the Museo de la Ciudad in Santiago, Chile. In Albania, the portfolio includes the Shkodër Museums Master Plan and the new museum for the Bylis archaeological site. In Tirana, the practice also contributed to the assessment of accessibility and inclusion at the National History Museum as part of the team appointed by the European Investment Bank.

The contemporary museum requires integrated design in which restoration techniques guide the development of routes, exhibition spaces and visitor services. Safety, lighting and functional building services must respect the context, while communication systems create a coherent whole. The aim is to protect heritage while making it more understandable, open and alive. For Studio Lauria Network, a museum is not simply a place that contains works of art, but a public space that promotes culture and knowledge as opportunities for individual and collective growth.

Bromelia!
Multifunctional street furniture for tangible sustainability.
“Bromelia” began as a piece of multifunctional street furniture, but its ambition is broader: to transform a service element into a small environmental, social and symbolic infrastructure. Inspired by the bromeliad, a plant capable of collecting and retaining water, the structure interprets nature not as decoration but as an operational model.
Libraries, Theatres and Spaces for Music
Cultural venues as protagonists of new urban relationships.
Libraries, theatres and music venues are places where architecture becomes a collective experience. They are not simply containers for functions, but urban devices capable of generating knowledge, relationships and identity. Studio Lauria Network has addressed these themes in very different contexts, always focusing on perceptual quality, technical precision and the relationship with the community.
Large Residential Developments
Designing places to live, from private domestic space to the urban scale.
Residential design is one of the fields in which architecture most directly demonstrates its ability to influence quality of life. For Studio Lauria Network, designing homes means creating relationships: between inside and outside, residents and landscape, private space and collective life.

Aware of the challenges of globalisation, we draw on Italian creativity to develop projects that respect and enhance local identities and cultures.
