Libraries, Theatres and Spaces for Music

Cultural venues as protagonists of new urban relationships.

Libraries, theatres and music venues are places where architecture becomes a collective experience. They are not simply containers for functions, but urban devices capable of generating knowledge, relationships and identity. Studio Lauria Network has addressed these themes in very different contexts, always focusing on perceptual quality, technical precision and the relationship with the community.

The Montecarmelo Library project in Madrid interprets the library as a neighbourhood anchor: an accessible and light-filled place that can support urban regeneration and provide new spaces for study, meeting and participation. In the project for Teatro Verdi in Terni, developed with the renowned French practice Clé Millet International, music assumes a civic scale: the theatre becomes a cultural machine, a representative public space and an opportunity to regenerate the urban centre.

Alongside major public buildings, the practice has also worked on more intimate, bespoke projects such as the Pedani violin-making workshop in Florence. Here, timber, light, display cases and carefully resolved construction details create a tailored environment in which the space communicates both artisanal knowledge and the delicacy of the musical instrument.

Across all these projects, architecture, acoustics, materials and circulation work towards a common goal: creating welcoming, distinctive and durable places in which culture and music become an active part of urban life.
