On the occasion of the 2016 edition of the Japanese Festival in Florence, Studio Lauria signed the set-up project at the Rogers Center in Scandicci. In the square below, we designed a structure to host two photographic exhibitions: “Lights and textures”, dedicated to the architecture of Kengo Kuma, and “escultura do inconsciente”, one of the most successful photographic series by the Japanese-Brazilian photographer Nio Tatewaki.
The pavilion, with a plan of 14 × 4 meters and a 4 meters height, was built using tubular steel and was covered on two long sides with a thread-like fabric. Inside, the rods supported a bamboo wicker texture on which the photographic panels of the exhibitions were fixed.
The LED lighting was fixed on the upper beams of the structure so that, at night, they seemed to float in the darkness of the square.
The overall defines an extremely light structure that plays with the concept of transparency very typical in Japanese architecture and strongly present in many works of Kengo Kuma.
