In 2011 the European University Institute, supported by the European Commission and other EU and national institutions, held the first edition of the Festival of Europe in Florence. It was an opportunity to promote the 2020 EU Agenda. Studio Lauria was in charge of the project of three temporary pavilions in Piazza della Signoria and of the scenographic lighting of the Loggia dei Lanzi.
The main pavilion occupied an area of about 400 square meters next to Palazzo Vecchio and was commissioned by the European Commission and the European Parliament. It was built with a steel structure and finished with colored MDF wood panels.
The pavilions facades were characterized by the use of mirror films in which the Renaissance architecture of the square was replicated.
