“Together”, Negozio Olivetti

“Together” is an exhibition project created in 2021 inside the Olivetti showroom in Piazza San Marco, Venice, a masterpiece designed by Carlo Scarpa. Extending across approximately 180 square metres, the installation grew out of a dialogue between Pritzker Prize laureate Balkrishna Vithaldas Doshi and Daniele Lauria, published in IQD magazine, and was conceptually linked to the Venice Architecture Biennale theme “How will we live together?”

The aim was to create a collective narrative about the value of shared spaces in architecture, presenting works and reflections by international architects including Paulo Mendes da Rocha, Kengo Kuma, Lina Bo Bardi, Barozzi Veiga and Zaha Hadid Architects.

Intervening in Scarpa’s interiors required a measured, reversible and respectful approach. The installation did not attempt to compete with the complexity of the space, but guided visitors through its two levels using a sequence of essential elements.

Brass was the defining material, used in sheets specially developed with De Castelli’s technical department. The metal surfaces introduced warm, changing reflections and established a dialogue with the stone, timber, mosaics and details of Scarpa’s architecture. Light helped make the route legible, transforming the installation into a discreet device that brought content, material and the memory of the place together.
