Auditorium of the Carabinieri Marshals and Brigadiers School

The new auditorium for the Carabinieri Marshals and Brigadiers School in the Castello district of Florence is conceived both as an efficient performance venue and as a representative setting for major institutional events. The main 2,500-seat hall is positioned above a smaller, multipurpose 300-seat auditorium: a solution that brings different functions together within a compact building and optimises volumes, circulation and resources.

The design integrates acoustics, sightlines, safety, accessibility, logistics and crowd-flow management. Auditorium seating, foyers, vertical circulation and service areas are organised to provide a clear experience for audiences, speakers, staff and guests, including when events take place simultaneously. The architectural volume responds to this functional complexity and to an existing sub-foundation layout that constrains the building’s geometry. This “constraint”, however, has been transformed into a sober, authoritative and contemporary identity that responds to the setting of the School and safeguards the durability of the public investment.

For Studio Lauria, designing spaces for culture and communication means treating interiors as environments for emotion, where light, materials and sound quality matter as much as technical efficiency. A bespoke design process makes it possible to develop specific solutions, avoid standardised models and coordinate specialist disciplines from the earliest stages. The project demonstrates a practical ability to manage complex, high-capacity buildings, balancing performance, flexibility and a strong representative character within a single architectural vision.
