Daniele Lauria
Daniele Lauria, born in 1971, studied in Florence and graduated as an architect in 1995. He later participated in the drafting of urban recovery plans for the city of Florence.
He opened his own studio in 1999 and ten years later he started some professional collaborations that today are the basis of a network who operates in over fifteen countries around the world.
Naturally passionate about culture, over the years he has carried out roles of artistic direction for important international events such as the Festival of Creativity. More recently he has actively participated in the events promoted by the Feltrinelli Foundation in Milan and the “Cidad3” architecture center in Sao Paulo.
He periodically writes for “Il Giornale dell’Architettura” with insights related to the urban transformations.
Over the years he has had the honor of dialoguing about architecture or actively collaborating with Renzo Piano, Leonardo Benevolo, Yona Friedman, German Samper, Kengo Kuma and, more recently, Balkrishna Doshi.

In 1999 he started the activities of Studio Lauria and in 2000 he participated in the Venice Biennale with his first work, the pavilion built in Piazza della Signoria for the Internet Festival promoted by the European Union.
In the following years, he combined the professional activity of architect with that of culture agent, with projects in Florence and in other Italian cities. From 2003 to 2005 he collaborated with Oliviero Toscani on the project “La Sterpaia”, workshop of the art of communication.
Since 2006, and until 2010, he was the artistic director of the Festival of Creativity in Florence. For that, in 2008, he received the Representation Medal of the President of the Italian Republic. The festival was also the opportunity to meet or collaborate with renowned personalities such as Yona Friedman, the architect of the "achievable utopias".
Since 2009 Daniele also operates in South America, starting from Brazil and then expanding to Chile and Peru. Today he is present in the main Latin American capitals where is appreciated his commitment to the issues of public space and sustainability.
In 2010 he collaborated in the creation of the Florentine headquarters of the IED, l’Istituto Europeo di Design.
In 2011 Daniele managed the first edition of the Festival of Europe on behalf of the European University and the Italian Representation at the European Commission.
On the occasion of the 400 years since the founding of the Brazilian city of Belém, Daniele Lauria updated the recovery project for the island of Cotijuba by presenting a plan for its eco-tourism development. In this context he included the "bromelias", an urban device for the collection and reuse of rainwater, which he designed a few years earlier.
He collaborated with the well-known architect Kengo Kuma for the preparation of his temporary exhibition in the Japanese Culture Festival in Italy. In the same year he designed the first of many projects for the multinational H&M in Peru and signed a project for the reuse of the Tobacco Factory in Florence.
From 2019 he strengthened his activities in Italy with the restoration project for the “Pagliere Reali” on behalf of the Uffizi Galleries, and published the book "Sudamericana" for Timia. He is collaborating with the IQD magazine for which he is working on the monographic insert "designing future" with Balkrishna Doshi, Pritzker prize 2018.
