Daniele Lauria is one of the architects called by IQD to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the magazine by giving a contribution on the theme “Architecture for Peace”. In his editorial, Lauria begins: “our job is to build, which is the exact opposite of what those who make war aim for, to destroy.” He then continues with a story of his experiences, of travelling and designing in places marked by war or in contexts where life is complicated by a lot of reasons. Among these are Dipkarpaz, a small town located in the part of Cyprus occupied by Turkey, Mosul, where he had the opportunity to collaborate with Zaha Hadid Architects, and Pristhina, the capital of Kosovo, theater of the Balkan war of 1998-99.
